Which video formats are supported?↓
MP4 (H.264/H.265), WebM (VP8/VP9), MOV, MKV. For uncommon codecs the in-browser decoder falls back to ffmpeg.wasm — slower but it still works.
Is anything uploaded to your servers?↓
No. Every byte stays in the browser tab. We do not run an upload endpoint for the tool — there is no place for files to land server-side.
What is the maximum file size?↓
Practically, ~2 GB of video or ~300 image frames. ffmpeg.wasm runs in a 2 GB WebAssembly heap, so very large inputs are batched automatically.
Which browsers work?↓
Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox on their last two versions. Safari 17+ is supported via the ffmpeg.wasm path (WebCodecs landed there mid-2024 and is steadily improving).
Can I use the output commercially?↓
Yes. You own everything you put in and get out. Reelframe doesn’t claim a license over your media.
How does scene-detect work (Pro)?↓
We pass the video through ffmpeg’s scene filter with a tunable threshold, then keep one frame per detected cut. The result is a much smaller, much more useful frame set than fixed-interval extraction.
